Tarp daugelio nesenų istorijų apie vaiduoklius ir poltergeistus, atvejis, nutikęs Anglijos Ekshemo mieste yra ypatingas. Iki šiol nesuprantama, koks ryšys yra tarp keisto radinio ir tolimesnių baisių įvykių.
Kartą pavasarį 11-metis Kolinas Robsonas aptiko pievoje netoli namų iš akmens išskaptuotą mažą žmogaus galvą. Jis papasakojo apie radinį broliui Lesliui. Tasai išnaršė visą pievutę ir netrukus rado dar vieną tokią pat.
Berniukai atsinešė savo lobį namo. Kai akmeniniai radiniai buvo apžiūrėti atidžiau, paaiškėjo, kad vienas jų – tai berniuko skulptūrinis atvaizdas, kitas – mergaitės.
Nuo tos dienos Robsonų namuose ėmė dėtis keisti dalykai. Savaime judėjo daiktai, o akmeninės galvos sukinėjosi, nors niekieno ranka prie jų nesilietė. Buities daiktai ne šiaip judėjo iš vietos į vietą – kažkokia jėga laužė juos ir gadino, o ant šeimininkų lovos nuo lubų byrėjo stiklo šukės, tartum kažkas viršuje daužytų stiklą. Naktimis priešais namą užsidegdavo keistos ugnelės…
Netikėtai košmarai prasidėjo ir pas Robsonų kaimynus Dodus. 10-metis Brajenas Dodas, kuris sirgo ir gulėjo lovoje, kartą pasiskundė motinai, kad kažkokia pabaisa praniko į kambarį ir palietė jo kojas. „Štai jinai! Už nugaros!“ – šūktelėjo berniukas, rodydamas pirštu.
Atsisukusi, Elen Dod su siaubu pamatė sutvėrimą, panašų į žmogų, tačiau padengtą tankiu kailiu. Moteris apmirė iš baimės. Monstras nieko jai nepadarė, tik ištiesė ranką ir vos vos palietė jos koją. Paskui neskubėdamas pasuko link durų ir išnyko.
Abi šeimos nutarė kuo greičiau pakeisti gyvenamą vietą, o akmenines galvas perdavė tirti vietiniam senovės istorijos specialistui daktarei Enei Rouz.
Ponia Rouz iš pradžių darė prielaidą, kad paslaptingos galvos susijusios su senovės keltų epocha, ši tauta gyveno Anglijoje prieš 2000 metų. Nors Robsonai papasakojo jai apie įvykius savo namuose, mokslininkė jais nepatikėjo.
Praėjo kelios dienos ir vieną naktį Enę Rouz pažadinos didžiulė baimė. Duryse stovėjo dvimetrinio ūgio gigantas su vilko galva. Daktarė, visgi, pasirodė ne pėsčia. Ji pakilo iš lovos ir žingtelėjo link nesuprantamo sutvėrimo, tačiau pabaisa be garso metėsi žemyn laiptine ir greitai pradingo iš akių. Vėliau monstrą matė ir Rouz dukra. Naktimis namuose ėmė sklisti keisti garsai, tartum kažkas nematomas vaikščiotų po kambarius. Enės Rouz šeimos nariai ėmė jausti nerimą, tarytum šalia jų būtų apsigyvenusi kažkokia pikta būtybė. Viuskas pasibaigė tik tada, kai akmenines galvas išvežė į kitą vietą.
Įvykiai įtikino daktarę, kad ji teisingai spėjo, datuodama eksponatus. Jai buvo žinoma, kad senovės keltai suteikdavo žmogaus galvoms magiškų savybių. Jie iškaldavo iš akmens kažką panašaus į galvas, kad panaudotų tuos daiktus religiniuose ritualuose. Tyrinėtojos nuomone, tokiems skulptūriniams atvaizdams galėjo būti uždėtas prakeikimas, kuris iki šiol neprarado galios…
Paaiškėjo ir tai, kad į galvų sudėtį įeina kvarcas, kurio kristalinė struktūra hipotetiškai gali kaupti įvairią informaciją iš šalies ir esant tam tikroms sąlygoms transliuoti vaizdinius į aplinką. Tačiau kol kas mokslas neturi galimybės patikrinti praktiškai šią teoriją, tad Ekshemo galvų paslaptis lieka neįminta.
