Mano Tėvo tokia valia, kad nepražudyčiau nė vieno /Jn 6,39/
Nėra bausmės ir nėra atpildo, nes nėra nusikaltimo. Yra tik nežinojimas. Nėra kančios, yra tik kankinimasis. Nėra atgailavimo, yra tik suvokimas.
Neskubėkime džiaugtis ar atmesti šiuos teiginius, nes lygiai taip pat teisingi yra ir priešingi teiginiai: yra atpildas, yra nusikaltimas, yra kančia ir yra atgaila. Suderinti tuos prieštaringus teiginius padeda nuostabi evangelinę etika ir Kristaus atnešta atgailos, kaip mąstymo pakeitimo, samprata. Juk Kristus pasakė ne tik “ncpaleistuvauk” ar “nežudyk”, bet jis pasakė ir “neteisk!”. Kristus yra nelinijinis, ne sąskaitas suvedantis buhalteris, o netikėtas (paradoksalus), prieštaringas ir apjungiantis prieštaras.
Neretai, kai žmogus atsiveria, jis pasako: “Tu nežinai, kiek aš kentėjau ir kenčiu. Aš labai daug atgailauju ir kankinuosi. Kada visa tai baigsis?” Kalbantis toliau paaiškėja, kad žmogaus mąstymas yra linijinis, buhalterinis: “Kuo daugiau kenčiu, tuo daugiau man bus atleista”. Kančia yra tik viena atgailos pusė. Dievas nėra kankintojas. Kita atgailos pusė yra suvokimas — mąstymo pakeitimas ir žmogaus perkūrimas.
Žmogus gali atgailauti be galo ilgai, bet jeigu neatsiras kitoks suvokimas, nebus vidinių paskeitimų, tai kančios, o tiksliau savęs kankinimas tęsis.
Ilgiau kalbantis paaiškėja, kad žmogus labai nenori, kad kiti sužinotų apie jo nuodėmę, apie jo kaltę. Jis norėtų, kad tos praeities nebūtų, norėtų ją sunaikinti, kad jos neliktų nei pėdsakų ir kad jis pats jos neprisimintų. Jis tikisi, kad kančios skausmas ir laikas sunaikins praeitį. Tokia atgaila yra nesuvoktas savęs kankinimas. Norėdamas likinti praeitį, žmogus gyvena praeityje, tame skausme nuo kurio jis bėga. Tokia būsena ir yra pragaras ta prasme, kad ji nesibaigia, nes praeitis nesunaikinama. Praeitis mums reikalingu. Ir kuo įnirtingiau mes praeitį atstumiame, kuo labiau jos nenorime, tuo skaudžiau ji mus kankina.
Kita vertus, jei mes manome, kad yra bausmė už nuodėmes, tada neretai, nelaukdami kada Dievas mus nubaus, mes patys užsikrauname bausmę ir kankiname save. O jeigu nepasiskiriame bausmės, tai tikimės ir laukiame, kada gi Dievas mus baus. Tokiu atveju, į gyvenime pasitaikančius nemalonumus, bėdas, ligas ar praradimus mes žiūrime kaip į bausmę, ir vėl kenčiame. Pirmuoju atveju žmogus kankina pats save, o antruoju atveju žmogų kankina gyvenimas. Ir šios kančios reikalingos, nes žmogaus širdis nubunda tik per skausmą.
Sakydamas, kad nėra bausmės už nuodėmes, neteigiu, jog nėra nuodėmės pasekmių. Tą aiškiai mums parodo gyvenimo patirtis. Tačiau tai ne bausmė, o pasekmės. Pastebėkime, — reiškinys tas pats, tačiau požiūris į jį visai kitas, ir pavadininimas visai kitoks. Vienu suvokimu — tai bausmė, o kitu suvokimu — tai mano elgesio pasekmės. Bausmę reikia iškentėti, išbūti laiką. Tarsi kalėjime. O pasekmes reikia tik priimti ir iš jų pasimokyti. Pirmu atveju gyvenimas yra “ašarų pakalnė” ir kančių pabaigos laukimas, o antru atveju gyvenimas yra mokykla ir įvairiaspusiška patirtis. Išvada tokia: yra ir taip, ir kitaip. Yra bausmė už nuodėmes ir — jos nėra. Tai netiesinė (paradoksali) Kristaus atneštoji evangelinę arba atpirkimo etika ir išjos išplaukianti atgaila kaip žmogaus perkūrimas. Ar sugebėsime ja pasinaudoti?
Dievas seniai mums viską atleido ir pamiršo. Dievas gyvena dabartyje, o mes praeityje ar ateityje. Galima sakyti, jog Dievas neturi atminties, tačiau atsimena žmogus. Ir atsimena tam, kad taptų išmintingesnių, kad mokytųsi iš gyvenimo praeities. Todėl praeitis, ir net nuodėminga praeitis, ir pati nuodėmė yra reikalinga. Todėl Kristus sako: “Neteiskite ir nebūsite teisiami” (Mt 7,1).
Taip reikia suprasti nuodėmę egzistenciniu (gyvenimiškos patirties) požiūriu. Juk gyvenimas mums duotas ne tam, kad užkastume savo talentus į žemę, kaip padarė blogasis tarnas, o kad leistume juos į apyvartą, t.y. rizikuodami mokytumės. Bijojęs rizikuoti tarnas buvo nubaustas, o leidęs talentus į apyvartą ir rizikavęs — paskatintas (Plg Mt 25,14—30). Tik išgyvendamas įvairias patirtis, ir geras, ir blogas žmogus gali augti, tobulėti ir pamažu vykdyti Kristaus nurodymą: “Būkite tobuli, kaip jūsų dangiškasis Tėvas yra tobulas” (Mt 5, 48). Blogis ir nuodėmė egzistencine prasme taipogi yra gyvenimą praturtinanti patirtis. Atsiminkime, kad ne tiek svarbu, ką žmogus padarė, bet labai svarbu, ko žmogus išmoko.
Evangelinės — atpirkimo etikos pagrindinis dėsnis yra vienybes arba meilės dėsnis ir iš jo išplaukiantis atleidimas. Mes turime atleisti ne tik kitiems, bet atleisti Dievui (už tokias ar kitokias gyvenimo sąlygas) ir svarbiausia — atleisti sau. Jeigu neatleisime sau ir kitiems, tai niekas mums neatleis, nes Viešpaties pasakyta: “atleiskite, nes aš jums atleidžiu”.
Kai žmogus nori išbraukti iš savo gyvenimo praeitį, jis neatleidžia kitiems arba sau. Jis kankinasi, jis griauna, jis naikina save, nenorėdamas tos praeities. Ir toji kančia, tas savęs naikinimas yra reikalingas, nes atgailoje yra ir kuriamoji pusė. O kūryba visada prasideda nuo griovimo. Per atgailą žmogus kuria save, tikriau sakant, atgailaujantis žmogus naikina save ir leidžia Dievui sukurti save naujai: “Sutverk širdį man tyrą, o dieve, many nepalaužiamą dvasią atnaujink”, taria atgailaujantis karalius Dovydas (Ps 50, 12).
Atgaila moko gyvenimo išminties. Praeitis neprapuola, nes ji mums yra reikalinga, nors ir labai skaudi būtų. Reikalinga, kad, ją prisiminę, nekartotume savo klaidų ir kitus perspėtume. Praeitis yra tas laiptelis, į kurį atsispyrę mes, išmokę gyvenimo pamoką ir įgiję gilesnį tikrovės suvokimą, galėsime užlipti ant sekančios savo gyvenimo pakopos. Žmonės, kurie yra išgyvenę labai skaudžią gyvenimo patirtį ir pakilę iš nuodėmių, dažnai pasako: “Nenorėčiau, kad tos praeities nebūtų. Ji man reikalinga”. Jeigu praeitį pašalinsime, tai mes vėl liksime kaip vaikai, kuriems norisi viską išbandyti. Visa, kas nutiko praeityje, atvedė mus prie šios akimirkos. Praeitis ir joje esanti patirtis suteikia išminties. Todėl atgailaujantis Dovydas prašo Viešpaties: “Tad mokyk mane išminties slaptybių” (Ps 50, 8). Taip nuodėmė tampa reikalinga gyvenimo patirtimi ir mūsų mokytoju.
Dievui nereikalingas atlygis ar aukos už mūsų nuodėmes: “Juk džiaugsmą tau daro ne aukos: jei deginčiau auką tu nepriimtum” (Ps 50,18), tačiau Dievui reikalinga mūsų sugrūdusi širdis, kuri
nesipriešintų kuriamajam Dievo veikimui mumyse. Tik per nuodėmę, kitaip sakant, per gėrio ir blogio pažinimą Dievas gali mus perkeisti ir veikti mūsų širdyse, nes tik atgailaujanti širdis būna sugrudus: “Manoji, Dieve, auka — tai širdis sugrudus. Graudžios, nuolankios širdies tu neatstumsi” — sako atgailaujantis Dovydas (Ps 50, 19). Nuodėmė priverčia mus griauti save, naikinti savyje tai, kas bloga ir ugdyti, gimdyti savyje tai, kas nesugriaunama. Tik nuolat patirdamas savęs sunaikinimą ir nuolat atgimdamas per atgailą žmogus tampa vis panašesnis į savo Kūrėją, kuris yra nesunaikinamas ir amžinas.
Atgailos kristalas yra daugiabriaunis. Jame galima įžvelgti mažiausiai penkias briaunas ar prasmes:
1) teisingumo,
2) gailestingumo,
3) nusižeminimo arba sugrudusios širdies,
4) kuriamąjį,
5) išminties.
Teisingumą atstato Viešpats. Teisingumo atstatymas, — tai minėtos nuodėmės pasekmės. Tačiau nereikia manyti, kad mes palys galim atstatyti teisingumą. Žmogus gali atkurti teisingumą tik iš dalies, o kartais jo pastangomis teisingumo iš viso neįmanoma pasiekti. Todėl Viešpats sako: “Mano kerštas ir aš atkeršysiu”. Atgaila, kurią skiria kunigas po išpažinties, yra juokingai maža, palyginus su įvykdytomis nuodėmėmis. Toji atgaila reiškia tik sutikimą, kad žmogus teisingumo atstatymą patiki Dievui. Atgailaujantis žmogus turėtų maždaug taip savo širdyje pasakyti: “Viešpatie, aš patikiu tau savo gyvenimą, tu dabar jį tvarkyk taip, kad būtų atstatytas teisingumas. Naikink ir perkeisk mane”. Šitoks nusiteikimas yra nuodėmės pasekmių priėmimas, kai žmogus į pasekmes žiūri ne kaip į bausmę, o kaip į būtiną ir reikalingą gyvenimo patirtį, kuri moko išminties.
Atgailaudamas žmogus ne tik patiria Dievo gailestingumą, bet ir jam pačiam tenka mokytis būti gailestingu ir atlaidžiu. Atleisdami kitiems mokomės gailestingumo artimui, o atleisdami sau mokomės būti gailestingi sau, mokomės priimti save. Priimdamas save, žmogus tampa gailestingas ir kitiems.
Nusižeminimas arba sugrūdusi širdis yra būtina sąlyga kuriamajam Dievo veikimui žmogaus širdyje. Tik sugrudusią žmogaus širdį Dievas gali sutverti iš naujo ir suteikti jai džiaugsmą bei ramybę.
Atgailaujant išmintis ateina su to, kas buvo — praeities ir su to, kas bus — ateities priėmimu. Taip per nuodėmę ir atgailą žmogus praturtėja nauja gyvenimo patirtimi ir įgyja išminties.
